"Butterfingers"—Amul's Take on Rohit Sharma's Dropped Catch

Amul's topicals often celebrate remarkable achievements by individuals, teams, or organizations. However, one of its recent creations didn’t highlight a milestone but rather a moment that could have been historic—if not for an unfortunate mistake.

On February 21, 2025, during India's match against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium, bowler Axar Patel had a golden opportunity to secure the first-ever hat-trick by an Indian in the Champions Trophy and only the second in the tournament’s history. But fate had other plans—Rohit Sharma, India's captain, dropped a straightforward catch, denying Axar his place in the record books.

Amul’s creative illustration captures the dramatic moment perfectly. It portrays Rohit with a dismayed expression as the ball slips from his hands, while Axar looks on in shock, his dream of a historic hat-trick slipping away. As always, Amul infused its signature wordplay into the artwork. The text reads, "Aisa Axar nahi hota hai," a clever pun on the bowler’s name, "Axar," and the Hindi word "Aksar," meaning "often." The phrase playfully translates to “This doesn’t happen often.”

Staying true to its tradition, Amul also included a witty nod to its beloved product, titling the topical “Butterfingers”—a fitting reference to Rohit’s costly mistake. The brand captioned the post with, "#Amul Topical: Rohit Sharma drops catch denying spinner his hat-trick!"
