The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has dismissed recent reports of a 15% syllabus reduction for the 2025 board exams. Some news outlets claimed a major cut in the syllabus for Classes 10 and 12, but CBSE clarified that these reports are false.
In an official statement, CBSE addressed the news circulating about a supposed 15% syllabus reduction and open-book exams for select subjects. "CBSE has not made any changes to its examination or internal assessment system for the 2025 board exams, nor has any official notification been issued," the statement read.
The Board emphasized that it has not implemented any such policy changes and reiterated that official updates on policy decisions are available exclusively on the CBSE website and through its circulars.
Previously, the Education Ministry has directed CBSE to draft a proposal for conducting two board exams annually. According to recommendations by the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE), the government is considering implementing a second board exam for Class 12 students in June starting in 2026
.
For the upcoming academic year, CBSE announced that theory exams for Classes 10 and 12 are set to commence on February 15, 2025, though the complete date sheet is yet to be released. Additionally, practical exams, project work, and internal assessments for the 2024-25 session will begin on January 1, 2025, for all CBSE-affiliated schools, both within India and abroad.
