New Delhi, Jan 6: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inaugurated a state-of-the-art 10-metre shooting range at Government School Number 3 in Kalkaji on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, CM Atishi expressed her admiration for the facility, stating, “Over the past few days, I had seen photographs of this shooting range, but I never imagined it would be of such a world-class standard.”
The new shooting range is part of the Delhi government’s ongoing efforts to enhance sports infrastructure in schools and encourage young talent in diverse disciplines.
Atishi underscored the financial barriers that often make sports inaccessible for many families, particularly in disciplines like shooting.
“Sports often remain inaccessible because of the high costs associated with equipment, training, coaching, and facilities,” she said. Highlighting the expenses in shooting, she added, “Air pistols and air rifles cost between ₹50,000 and ₹2 lakh, with professional models exceeding ₹3 lakh. Ammunition costs ₹2,000 per tin, while shooting jackets, gloves, eyewear, scopes, and tripods add lakhs more to the expenses.”
Despite these challenges, Atishi expressed confidence in the potential of young talent. “I am confident that in the coming years—whether it’s four years or eight—children from areas like Kalkaji and Govindpuri who train in these facilities will go on to win medals at the Olympics,” she said, referencing Indian shooting icons Manu Bhaker and Abhinav Bindra as inspirations.
The initiative is part of the Delhi government’s broader vision to create world-class sports infrastructure in schools, ensuring that talent from all backgrounds can thrive.
