The University of Delhi (DU) will now permit students to pursue two degree programs simultaneously within the university. Students must pursue their first degree in a regular mode at any DU college or department, while the second degree can be pursued through open and distance learning (ODL) via the School of Open Learning.
According to DU's official notification, students who are already enrolled or are in the process of enrolling in a degree program can choose to pursue a second degree concurrently. However, they cannot enroll in two similar academic programs at the same time, such as BCom (Hons) and BCom (Pass), even if one is pursued through the ODL mode.
The notification specifies that these guidelines apply to all academic programs except PhD programs.Students who opt to pursue two degrees simultaneously at the University of Delhi must fulfill the academic requirements for both programs separately. This includes attending classes, completing internal assessments, submitting assignments, giving presentations, and meeting the promotion criteria for each degree.
To avoid redundancy, students are required to complete the compulsory courses for the degree they enroll in first, whether it is in regular mode or through open and distance learning (ODL), as stated in the DU notification.
The notification also mentioned that corresponding mandatory courses in the second program will be replaced with suitable alternatives. For example, if a student enrolls in a regular program first, they must complete the mandatory courses for that program. If the ODL program is their initial enrollment, its compulsory courses will take precedence.
For undergraduate programs, students must complete required courses such as Environmental Science (EVS) and Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) for the program they join first. If these courses are also part of the second-degree program, they will be substituted with appropriate alternatives. For instance, a student pursuing two undergraduate degrees will study the AEC language and EVS courses in the regular program, while in the second ODL degree, they can choose a different AEC language or opt for a Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) or Value Addition Course (VAC).
Similarly, if a student is pursuing two BA programs, they may select courses from the open generic elective (GE) pool to avoid repeating a generic elective (language) course.
Additionally, the research project or theme in the fourth year of the undergraduate program must be different for each degree pursued. Students are also not permitted to combine credits earned from both programs to achieve a major or minor in any discipline.
