The University of Delhi announced Saturday night that students who had not studied Mathematics in class XII can seek admission to BCom (Hons) programme for the 2025-26 academic year by opting for the second subject combination category as per the existing norms.

The information bulletin for DU’s admissions for undergraduate programmes was released on the university website late at night on March 8, 2025.

As per the prevalent norms, the university has been offering two combination subject systems for many of its undergraduate programmes since 2022, the year when the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) was introduced and DU had adapted CUET to admit students for undergraduate courses.

Considering the existing system is being carried forward, the first combination involves one language from List A, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, and any two subjects from List B. The second combination, which has been retained, includes one language from List A, Accountancy or Bookkeeping, and any two subjects from List B.

It is important to note that while List A consists of 14 languages, List B contains 23 domain-specific subjects.

Earlier, there was a major uproar over the speculation that the second subject combination which enabled students to opt for the Accountancy/Bookkeeping route for admission to BCom (Hons) may be dropped. In such a scenario, students, who had chosen their course selections sans Maths in class XII would have been at a disadvantage, However, experts claimed that implementing this policy from the 2026-27 academic session would give students ample time to plan and prepare.

The information bulletin stated that for the general programmes, eligibility for admissions to 78 undergraduate courses across disciplines such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Technology, Management, Vocational Studies, and Fine Arts will require students to qualify class XII examination or its equivalent from a recognised Board.

For all undergraduate programme admissions except in the case of School of Open Learning, Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board and foreign nationals, CUET-UG scores are compulsory.
