Govt notifies over 3,500 jobs for persons with benchmark disabilities

The government has designated 3,566 central government positions as appropriate for people with benchmark disabilities.

Dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual impairment, unique learning disability, mental illness, and numerous disabilities have also been listed as candidates for these positions. Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities notified 3,566 positions in central government establishments as appropriate for persons with benchmark disabilities (disability of 40% or more).

This notification, according to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, would expand the reach of jobs for people with benchmark disabilities in government establishments. The repealed Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights, and Full Participation) Act of 1995 last notified a list of 2,973 jobs appropriate for people with benchmark disabilities in 2013. 593 new posts have been added to the previously notified list.
