Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch 11 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu via video conference on Wednesday in order to boost the country's health infrastructure.
MBBS seats have increased by 79.60 percent (from 51,348 to 92,222 seats) and PG seats have climbed by 80.70 percent (from 31,185 to 56,374 seats) over the last seven years, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
So, before 2014, the total number of medical seats was roughly 82,500. In the last seven years, there has been an increase of roughly 80%, or 66,000 seats.
The overall number of medical colleges (including public and private) has increased by roughly 54%, from 387 to 596.
