Rohit Sharma has put an end to all speculation regarding his ODI future following India’s triumph in the Champions Trophy 2025, where they defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final. In the lead-up to the championship clash on Sunday, there was significant buzz about Rohit's future in ODIs, especially with his 38th birthday approaching in two months and India's next major ODI tournament being the 2027 World Cup. Rumors suggested he might retire, but in the post-match press conference, Rohit clarified that he has not yet made a decision regarding his future.
"I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumours are spread moving forward. Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (there is no future plan, whatever is going on will continue as it is)," Rohit stated.
Across nine ICC event finals, Rohit has now accumulated 322 runs in 11 innings at an average of 32.20, with a highest score of 76. His performance in the final places him in elite company alongside Sourav Ganguly (117 vs. New Zealand, ICC Knockout 2000 final), Sanath Jayasuriya (74 vs. India, ICC Champions Trophy 2002 final), and Hansie Cronje (61* vs. West Indies, ICC Knockout 1998 final) as one of the few captains to score 50+ in an ICC Champions Trophy final.
Additionally, 76 is Rohit’s highest score in any ODI final, surpassing his previous best of 66 against Australia at the SCG during the 2008 Commonwealth Bank series final.
