Top 5 Government Initiatives Launched in the Education Sector for Students



The Central Government has introduced various schemes, scholarships, and programs aimed at benefiting students, with a particular focus on supporting meritorious individuals from low-income families, youth, and children of ex-servicemen. Below is an overview of one such initiative:

PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme

In November, the Union Cabinet approved the PM Vidyalaxmi scheme to provide financial assistance to meritorious students pursuing higher education. The government has allocated ₹3,600 crore annually to benefit over 22 lakh students. This scheme is specifically designed for students from low-income backgrounds. Eligible candidates admitted to Quality Higher Education Institutions (QHEIs) can avail of collateral-free, guarantor-free loans from banks and financial institutions, covering the full tuition fees and additional course-related expenses.

PM SHRI Scheme

The Prime Minister's Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme, launched on September 7, 2022, is a landmark initiative aimed at delivering high-quality education and equipping students with 21st-century skills to make them "future-ready."With an outlay of ₹27,000 crore for five years, jointly funded by the Centre and states, the scheme aims to upgrade 14,500 schools into "exemplar" institutions nationwide. Government-operated schools, including Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), will be transformed into model schools with state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced teaching methodologies.

PM SHRI Scheme

Announced in the Budget 2024-25, the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme offers young individuals exposure to the professional world through internships in the top 500 companies across various sectors.The scheme targets one crore youth over five years, providing them with 12 months of hands-on experience in real-world business environments, enhancing their skills and employability.

Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme

The Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme, launched in the academic year 2006-07 by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare under the Ministry of Defence, aims to promote higher technical and professional education among the dependent wards and widows of Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Coast Guard personnel.

Each academic year, 5,500 scholarships are awarded, equally divided between 2,750 boys and 2,750 girls. The scholarship provides financial assistance to selected students for a duration ranging from one to five years, depending on the length of the approved courses by the respective regulatory bodies.

Under this scheme, boys receive ₹2,500 per month, while girls are awarded ₹3,000 per month, offering vital support to help them pursue their academic and professional aspirations.
