This year, the UPSC aims to fill 979 vacancies across various service cadres. Notably, this marks a reduction of 77 posts compared to the 1,056 positions advertised last year.

UPSC CSE Recruitment 2025: Eligibility criteria

 

To appear for the Civil Services Examination, candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements set by the UPSC.

 

Educational qualifications

  • A degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification is required.

  • Final-year students or those awaiting results can apply for the prelims, provided they submit proof of passing before the Mains application deadline.

  • Candidates with professional or technical qualifications recognized as equivalent to a degree by the government are eligible.

  • Medical students who have completed their final year but are yet to finish their internship can apply with a course completion certificate.

Nationality

  • For IAS, IPS, and IFS: Candidates must be Indian citizens.

  • For other services: Candidates can be Indian citizens, or citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees (arrived before January 1, 1962, with the intention to settle permanently in India). Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) from select countries intending to settle in India are also eligible.

UPSC Civil Services Exam 2025: Selection process

 

The selection process comprises three stages:

  1. Preliminary exam:

    Qualifying Criteria:

    • Two objective-type papers worth 400 marks.

    • Serves as a screening tool. Scores do not contribute to the final ranking.

    • Roughly 12-13 times the number of available vacancies will qualify for the Main Exam.

    • Candidates must score at least 33% in General Studies Paper-II.

    • Meet the overall qualifying marks in General Studies Paper-I, as determined by the Commission.

  2. Main exam: Qualified candidates from the prelims proceed to this stage.

  3. Personality test: The final stage involves an interview and personality assessment.

  1. Visit the official UPSC website at upsc.gov.in.

  2. Click on the "UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2025" link on the homepage to access the application portal.

  3. Register using your personal details such as name, date of birth, email, and mobile number.

  4. Log in with the credentials created during registration.

  5. Complete the application form, providing educational qualifications, personal details, and exam preferences.

  6. Pay the application fee through debit/credit cards or net banking.

  7. Submit the application and download the completed form for future reference.
